“Every living entity, especially persons in the human race, must feel grateful for the benedictions offered by the grace of the Supreme Lord ” – Srimad Bhagavatam 3.19.36, Srila Prabhupada
When someone talks or says about Bhagavad Gita, what comes to your mind? Spirituality? God? Lord Krishna? Have you ever thought about what Gita teaches us about Gratitude?
Bhagavad Gita is not a religious book, it teaches us how one can follow the teachings from Gita. It tells us how to live life, how to be helpful, how to be grateful, etc. We are here to help you on how you can implement these Gratitude lessons in your life.
Cultivate Habit of Gratitude
Gratitude does not come in size. Even the smallest gratitude matters in your life. You can be grateful to many things like Nature, Fate, Destiny, God, or the Higher power of the universe. We cannot distinguish between living and non-living things and be grateful. We can be grateful to tangible and intangible things as well.
We all know life is a full circle and it’s our responsibility to perform our duties. This will help us to keep intact our circle of life. Nature is one such element we should be thankful for. There are three qualities of Nature – goodness, passion, and ignorance.
Goodness results in happiness. What does this mean? It means if you show gratitude towards all the things from smallest to largest. It gives a sense of happiness. This means by doing good, you feel happy.
Passion is the output of our actions. If you are passionate about something, you do with full dedication and energy and you enjoy the fruits of it. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. If you lack the knowledge you transform into another delusional world.
Even the actions we do in our everyday life like eating, sleeping, talking, giving, sacrificing, etc. We should be thankful for this action.
How, What, Why ??
When we say Gratitude or Grateful, you must be having this question of how to be grateful, what are the things that can be done and why we should practice?
Well, all your concerns are being addressed here. When do we feel grateful, when something good happens in your life. This can be anything like getting good grades, getting a promotion, helping someone, etc. We can just say a small “Thank You” in your mind with a smile on your face.
We need to see here always what difference we make in our life or someone else’s life by practicing the act of gratefulness. The impact can be small or big that is totally fine.
Every day we can be grateful but there are some special occasions in life where you can be more grateful.
A solution to every problem
Every situation has a positive and negative side and the impact of it varies accordingly. It is said that if you cannot be grateful for all situations, you can be grateful in all situations.
The 80-20 rule of God says that the actual problem is only 20% but we stretch the problem so much that it becomes 80%. And we feel that we are facing major problems in our life.
We feel resentful in negative situations. You can shift your focus on good things by moving to Gratitude. For example, if you are terribly sick and can’t sustain the sickness. You find that there is medicine out there that cures your sickness. You would be grateful for the availability of that medicine.
Gratitude is a key to happiness and stress-buster. Gratefulness is nothing but freedom from negativity. Whatever the problem, always remember you have the strength to face the problems.
On a final note
Be grateful for all the good things, it does not matter if it is only one or two things like a nice home, a good job, or a loving family. You should be happy that you have those amazing things. We know that there are millions of people who don’t have these things. There are many people who have nothing.
How will you express your gratitude towards the small things in your life?
